DOT PAINTINGS

My dot painting evoke my dreams, the constellations, the intertwined threads of cloth, the labyrinths, of which each dots is an individual or a collective thought with its own rhythm and harmony. I love matching colors and let my thoughts take shape without thinking, through each painting a new adventure transcends my emotions and unleash its benefits. I can paint several painting at the same time, to allow tile for drying. Each of them is a journey with its own energy and mystery.

TEXTILE PATTERNS

When I started on the particular process that defines a lot of my work I wasn’t conscious of any strong connection to textile but that understanding has grown. It is however coherent and compatible with my interest in the beauty of patterns, woven, embroidery, wall hangings, rugs and fabric’s designs that amaze me. I love discovering Copts’ patterns as much as those of American Indians or of the people of south America which are so rich and mesmerizing. Now when I paint or draw new patterns, textile for fashion or decoration is present in my mind.

DRAWINGS

In black ink my work focuses on the precisions of the line and the wealth of details that reflect my interests for the botanical and organic world. I like the sobriety and timelessness of black and white, when I start an ink drawing, I never know what the end result will be, but the pleasure is present and essential for me.

In colored ink the spontaneity of my compositions is in resonance with my joyful imaginary. Children I was amused and impregnated by the universe of great illustrators such as Pierre Probts or Richard Scarry, then lately by the poetic work of Akira Kusaka and of Kristina Kemenikova. I am very careful with the coloring, I use ink but also colored pencil, pastel, felt pen or watercolor.

My Artwork

Painting & Drawing

Inspired by my passion for natural organic and vegetal patterns and their complexities, but also by architecture, art and the myths of various Aboriginal & Native American cultures. My paintings of both small and large scales evoke my dreams, the constellations, the intertwined threads of cloth, the labyrinths.

From painting to drawing, my artistic journey has led me to explored various mediums, techniques and tools, as the emotion of colors and shapes are essential to my work. Each dot, line or pattern is an individual or a collective thought with its own rhythm and harmony.

My taste for contemplation reflects itself in my Black Ink Drawings which embody the beauty and the complexity of the vegetal and organic worlds. My Colored Ink Drawings are in resonance with the textile patterns that I loves to create and a shimmering journey in the imaginary world of my childhood.

Paper Work

I explore the multiple dimensions of Paper, that I paint, draws, cuts and paste to make poetic and quirky collages. I draw Blue Ink Portraits of elegant and timeless women, hand colored Cards and various eclectics and contemporary Illustrations. My work on the implementation of paper Labyrinths leads me on more complex paths.

Lately, I have created a new collection of timeless and decorative Paper Bowls, each of which is unique and handmade.

About

I was raised in France, in the countryside and in town, before going to university in London and in Canterbury to later become a fully chartered forensic psychologist. I’ve always been fascinated by human mind and wanted to try to understand its complexity, darkness and beauty. Besides, I have never stopped drawing and learning and often noticed that Art, like Nature, possesses the amazing ability to make us feel good, to heal and to bring people together. Art is fraternal and enables us to express and share our feelings and our vision of the world, just for fun or to make it better or more acceptable sometime.

My creative nature has taken the essentials paths to maturation, those of insight and exploration. I have deeply thought about colors, forms, techniques and tools before following my instinct. The notion of pleasure is essential in my work. My inspiration takes its source in my everyday enrichment, during my walks in nature where, a bag in my pocket, I love collecting seeds, flowers, stones, shells and other natural shapes which according to the seasons enchants me. Equally, in my discovery of other artists or during my trips to Brazil, Morocco, USA or France. I love contemplating my environment as much as photographing it. I admire nature’s organics patterns and evolutive colors that never stop to amaze and to inspire me and I like letting them sink into me until they reappaer in my artwork.

The Dreams field is omnipresent in my work and open the doors for me of unlimited possibilities. When I started dot painting I had never heard of Aboriginal art, but as a timeless thread, the aboriginal influence is present in my painting, as an invisible connection to human universal thought. I then discovered the work of the artist Yayoi Kusama whom, like Aboriginal art, fascinate me.

The making process feeds itself from lot of reflections, doubts, persistence, courage and fun. It’s very important for me to use raw materials of the art form, as well as naturals and recycled ones which are subject to metamorphosis. My work production is artisanal and all items are unique handmade pieces.

I love allowing myself to be creative and completely immersed within a painting to see on which exciting journey it will take me. I draw everyday, often when listening to other people, and set my imagination free. It’s my way of life and would not imagine it to be different. Art allows me to speak a language which magnify words and energies into a timeless picture that can be shared with many.

My work is multidisciplinary, I also give art lessons in secondary education and pass on my ‘savoir-faire’ in workshop to both children and adults.

Paper Artworks

PAPER WORKS

I love hearing the sound of paper and I have always been fascinated by paper’s qualities, possibilities, humble character and poetic nature. Paper can be cut, engraved, folded, painted, creased, pasted, written on, printed and manipulated in many different ways, in a world that cannot exists without it. The paper therefore naturally imposed itself, when I was in search of an accessible, inexpensive and pleasant material to create with. I enjoy working with paper by hand, the one I use is mainly recycled or old one hunted in flea markets. I often write secret messages on it before its ultimate metamorphosis. With time, I keep on exploring what paper offers me, from ink drawings portraits, collages to the creation of unique handmade objects.

PAPER BOWLS

Lately I have realized an handmade collection of usual and decorative paper Bowls each of which is an unique piece. My bowls are as strong as they are delicate since they come from the trees of the forest. The idea came to me while exploring the lightness of paper through my desire to recycle it and to remove plastic objects from my environment. Time is an essential factor in the manufacture of my bowls, they are all of different sizes and painted with natural pigments brought from Morocco for some  and with recycled paint for others. Each bowl has its character and I can’t wait to know their many destinations … You’ll have to tell me ?!

LABYRINTHS

Working on paper spontaneously led me onto making handmade paper labyrinths of all sizes, through sketching then cutting. My work evoke the spiritual dimension of labyrinths but also the idea of getting lost, of riddles, of multiples twists and turns sometimes confusing and meandering. I see labyrinths as both ; a real and an imaginary path where you can get lost or find yourself, a metaphor for the human mind capable to have such beautiful dreams and such horrible nightmares. Labyrinthine architecture is exciting for the explorers that we are.

PORTRAITS

If I like to photograph poeple's portraits on the street or elsewhere. I also draw in blue ink, lively portraits of women with whom I like to spend time. My elegant friends come to life on paper before being carefully cut out and stick on cards colored with natural pigments. Delighted to deliver messages, my women portraits go around the world.

CARDS

Handmade, my cards are first cut to the chosen size and dyed naturally with black tea, before being illustrated and colored. In each of my illustrations I seek the spontaneity and the candor which is strongly influenced by my taste for the decorative arts and more particularly for the painter and designer Piero Fornasetti. Finally, I like their dimension both ephemeral and eternal, especially when the message they carry is a happy one.

PAPER DRESS

Surprisingly, recycled paper has led me to dress making. My Paper Dresses are decorated with natural dried flowers and old laces hunted in flea markets. These little girls dresses are unique handmade piece and a poetic decoration for children’s room or for window display.

COLLAGES

Collage has always played a big part in my creative process, it’s a medium that connects the past with the present and the future. I like my collage to be poetic, streetwise, esthetic with a lively and colorful imaginary.

I work strictly by hand as it’s important for me to feel the qualities and textures of the paper I use from magazines, newspapers or old books. I take imageries out of context to combine them according my instinct. The waiting plays a determining role in collage as my pieces are meticulously composed and always take a picture of the final piece.

Collage plays with time and space and creates strange universes which take me on an adventure with paper, scissors and some glue. I enjoy the freedom and random nature of collage, the distortion and accidental connections that it offers, as well as its narrative possibilities which gives me another way of expressing myself.

Making a collage is like finishing a jigsaw, the puzzle piece is continually moved and shifted until it just clicked and I know it’s right. I treat each piece as a journey, never quite knowing where it will end up but clearly enjoying the ride.
